Project's Concept
Public and private transportation vehicle drivers were greatly affected by the imposed lockdowns and quarantines. For example, the closure of Birzeit University affected more than 130 transportation vehicle drivers, who worked every day to take students from City Centre Ramallah to Birzeit University.130 vehicles were used by 130 drivers who provide a livelihood to 130 families. Jericho transportation drivers were also affected by the closure of the Allenby Bridge Terminal, and no official party has provided any support or compensation to cover up for their losses. Rather, there was the introduction of new laws and restrictions that disregarded the effects of the pandemic on transportation drivers.
Pictures from two specific locations are displayed in my work: 1) The parking of transportation vehicles going to Birzeit and 2) The parking of transportation vehicles heading to Jericho. These pictures highlight the people I met there, such as Qusay, Abu-Nidal, Abu-Ali, Ahmad and Abu-Mu’taz.
These pictures were created using an old technical method that uses film cameras. This method depends on film developed in the lab. Some of the film used in this work was expired due to its limited availability and low demand. This kind of photography needs special focus, care and high precision while producing each photo, which is what motivated me to utilise it.
